1st XI win league and reach County Cup final
Following their Thames Valley League win earlier this term, our 1st XI played their way to the County Cup final at Thatcham Town FC on Wednesday, 29th March, against the specialist football school, the John Madejski Academy. The final turned out to be a magnificent match that showcased two very good teams, albeit on a sub-standard pitch. In our first defeat of the season, we were unlucky to lose on penalties to a talented JMA side when we created far more chances but failed to put them away. The score was 1-1 at half and full-time, with Luke Hayden, clearly playing in some discomfort, and Eddie Lee and Mike Green close to scoring – but it was not to be.
However, no regrets! If our worst result is losing on penalties to a football academy, having reached four cup finals out of four, and having won our league twice, I think the result does not define or diminish a terrific season.
I was extremely proud of a group of players who played to their potential and represented the school with great distinction and pride. Paddy Spiers just nicked the Man of the Match from Ethan Pinnock, and Eddie Lee had his most influential match, but every player left nothing on the field or in the changing rooms. Even in the narrowest of defeats, well done!
Roll on the Gibbs Cup Final against St Bernard’s School, Slough!
