Geologists through to finals!
Before Christmas, the Geology Department invited the Year 12 class to work together in teams to create entries for the National Schools Geology Challenge, hosted by The Geological Society. It was met with enthusiasm, hard work and dedication from all students throughout the following half term and in February, they were able to host a lunchtime viewing spectacle with drinks and treats to enjoy, and be proud, of three wonderfully researched and presented videos on interesting and varied geological topics. These included mass extinctions, how geology affects US voting and carbon capture and storage.
The Department has since received really detailed and valuable feedback for all groups, and is able to share the exciting news that the team who created “Can Carbon Capture and Storage save the world?” has been invited to represent Blue Coat at the National Final, which takes place in Burlington House, the home of The Geology Society, later this month. Hopefully you are able to join us in wishing them luck, as I’m sure you can agree this is a fantastic achievement and a rare opportunity to demonstrate their continued passion for this subject.
The finalists are: Ed V, Sam N, Callum P, Lewis M and Alex C.
Mass Extinctions Team: Will C, Dylan D, Adam K B, Kian E and Freddie N
How Geology affects US Voting: Harry A, Kyle W, Miles A, Will M-S
