Roaring Success for The Lion King JR!
The end-of-term performance of The Lion King JR by our Year 7-9 pupils was spectacular. This ambitious production, directed by our Deputy Head (Co-Curricular) Kirsty Richardson, was filled with the heaps of energy and enthusiasm from our younger pupils, bringing this timeless story to life and captivating the audience from start to finish.
The months of hard work and dedication were clearly evident in this energetic show. There were fantastic dance routines choreographed by our Head of Dance, Lucy Fewkes, and each character was brought to life with vibrant costumes. The use of puppetry was particularly impressive, adding some extra magic to the performance and highlighting the students’ dedication and skill in mastering such complex props. A special mention goes to the giraffe on stilts – an acrobatic highlight!
Of course, The Lion King JR wouldn’t be complete without its iconic soundtrack, and the pupils performed these well-known favourites with passion. From the stirring opening notes of “Circle of Life” to the uplifting “Hakuna Matata,” every song had the audience humming along.
Our pupils should be very proud that The Lion King JR was a roaring success. It combined stunning visual elements, much-loved music, and exceptional performances to create an unforgettable experience. Thanks, of course, go to our technical theatre crew who staged the production, and all the staff involved with the back-stage costumes, make-up, music and more. It takes a huge team effort. Congratulations to all for ending the year on such a high note! The Headmaster in his end-of year newsletter said, “Although I could point to many examples of the benefits of co-education this year, there is no doubt that the triumph of this show was a very public statement that when working together, excellence is enhanced.”
We look forward with great anticipation to “Oliver” in the Spring.
