Year 8 Take to the Slopes in Austria
This winter, a group of Year 8 students recently enjoyed an introduction to alpine skiing during a week in the Austrian resort of Wagrain. With students ranging from complete beginners to confident skiers, the trip was filled with progress, challenge and plenty of memorable moments both on and off the slopes.
67 Year 8 students travelled to the Austrian resort of Wagrain for an action packed introduction to alpine skiing. The group included everyone from complete beginners to confident skiers, all united by excitement as they departed school in the early hours ready for their mountain adventure.
After arrival, students were quickly fitted with skis, boots and poles before exploring the village together. One of the most magical moments came during a torchlit walk through the snowy streets of Wagrain, with the group winding their way into the crisp alpine night.
The first day on the slopes set the tone for the week. Supported by a fantastic team of instructors, progress was rapid across all groups. Advanced skiers worked on jumps and speed, while beginners made impressive gains in confidence and technique. By the final day, every student who had never skied before was confidently tackling red runs, an achievement that stood out as a highlight of the trip.
Evenings were just as lively, with students enjoying an impressive range of hotel facilities including table tennis, table football, a cinema room, indoor football pitches, a sports hall and a trampoline park. These facilities kept the students entertained every evening, burning off any leftover energy from the slopes. Huge thanks to all staff involved.
