The Richard Aldworth Society 7 Richard Aldworth The Richard Aldworth Society is a unique opportunity for members of the Blue Coat Community to follow in the footsteps of our founder and leave a gift to the School in their Will. Over 300 years ago, one man decided he wanted to help change the lives of young people in the Reading area by writing into his last Will and Testament that he wished to set up a school for “twenty poore boys of Reading”. Blue Coat continues to thrive to this day and we are extremely proud to still offer life changing bursaries and Foundation Scholarships to those who truly deserve it. But we can’t do it alone! A legacy is a wonderful way to recognise the role the School has played in your life and a share of your estate would make a huge impact in securing the future of Reading Blue Coat. We are delighted that several Old Blues (some pictured above) have already become members of the Society and have committed to leave a gift to the School in their Will. The Richard Aldworth Society President, Dr Michael Fopp (1964), could not put it better when he says “I have come to realise that leaving a legacy is a worthwhile way of recognising the part Reading Blue Coat played in my life, and will help coming generations to achieve the best their futures have in store.” It means a great deal to the School that we are able to recognise the generosity of our members and the Headmaster is delighted to host an exclusive lunch for members and their guests at which he will give a detailed update on School life and ways in which their gifts will make a difference. Members also receive a special Richard Aldworth Society pin which many choose to wear with pride at other Old Blues events. Headmaster, Pete Thomas, says, “We continue to build upon the strong foundation laid by Richard Aldworth, and this is made possible through the generosity of others. By leaving a bequest to Reading Blue Coat, you are helping to transform young lives and are playing a vital role in securing the future of our wonderful School. Thank-you for playing your part in ensuring Blue Coat flourishes for many years to come.” If you would like to know more about becoming a member of the Richard Aldworth Society or have already pledged a gift to the School in your Will and would like to become a Society member, please contact the Foundation Director, Sarah Bunnell-Pyper e :spy@rbcs.org.uk t: 0118 933 5875. She would be very pleased to speak with you.
