IN MEMORIAM We are sad to report the death in June 2018 of former Biology teacher, John Allen , who joined the staff in September 1957 and retired in July 1991 (together with his wife, Tricia, also a Biology teacher). John coached rowing at Reading Blue Coat from 1957-1971 and was also involved with rowing in Henley and locally. In 1960, Reading Blue Coat opened its first Boat Club, which John had long sought. According to Reading Blue Coat’s archivist, Peter van Went: ‘[John’s] love of learning was invariably accompanied by a store of anecdotes and a great sense of fun; a true polymath if ever there was one. He will be greatly missed by generations of Old Blues who held him in the highest respect and affection.’ John was 86. David Greer (1952) died in February 2018, aged 80. David was an accomplished music historian and his major legacy can be measured by two volumes of Collected Lutenist Partsongs Vols I and II for Musica Britannica, published in 1987 and 1989, and the new edition of John Dowland’s Ayres for Four Voices for Musica Britannica, published in 2000. Anthony Field (1957) died suddenly at his home in Ottawa, Canada. He is survived by his wife, Celia, three children and three grandchildren. Rupert Woodhead (1963) died in April 2018 after a two-year battle with bowel cancer. Rupert loved sailing, he was a member of Cookham Reach Sailing Club and worked in Oil and Gas for many years. Rupert retired in 2015. He is survived by three children, Patrick, James and Charlotte; three grandchildren, Izabella, Max and Millie; and his wife, Bita. In November 2017, Old Blue Andy Kingston married Kierra Liew in Hartley Wintney, Hampshire, and this photo shows the bride and groom – and 11 of his fellow Old Blues from 2005 . Congratulations to Old Blues Patrick Leverton (2005) and Hayley Harris (2005) who got married in August 2018.
