Well done to our 1st XV hockey team competing in the Berkshire Schools County Tournament

Well done to our 1st XV hockey team competing in the Berkshire Schools County Tournament. The day kicked off with a 1-1 draw, thanks to Kiara’s perfectly timed touch at the far post. The next game resulted in a 1-0 win with Lily scoring through a reverse hit. After a motivational team talk from Mrs Fisher, the girls were ready for the final group game, determined to dominate. And dominate they did! They quickly netted 4 goals – Kiara with a rebound from a short corner, Lily with 2 goals and Evie sprinting through the entire team from halfway for the final goal. Despite the opposition’s efforts, our defence held strong, keeping a clean sheet through some sharp and determined defending and topping the table to earn a spot in the semi-finals.
The team now faced a must-win match and they were not backing down. With incredible link-up plays from Amabel and Evie, the team were starting to overwhelm the opposition and secured a 2-0 win – Kiara deflecting Lily’s cross for the first goal, and Evie finishing off with another solid strike. On to the final!
The final game was a battle from start to finish. Ros’ powerful slaps broke the opposition’s press, allowing Holly and Scarlett to push forward. Lily eliminated defenders and slotted a shot into the top of the D, putting us 1-0 ahead! Although we conceded a late goal, we fought on to a 1-1 draw. In penalty flicks, we were unlucky and lost 4-2 (with Holly and Evie both scoring their attempts).
Nevertheless, the team are through to the Regionals! 💥 Well done team!! Special shout-out to out goalkeeper Lucy and defence; Millie, Amabel, Ros, Gemma, Maya, Scarlet and Claudia for conceding only 2 goals the whole day, and Holly and Ruby for some great runs down the sides. 🙌
