This week, our golfers had a very encouraging 2.5 to 0.5 win in the first round of the HMC Foursomes competition against Charterhouse School, which has the significant advantage of its own course! Our boys clearly put some work in over the summer break, fine-tuning their games, and they coped well with windy conditions at Sonning Golf Club.
Our pairings dovetailed well, with Aidan and Eddie leading throughout and taking a commanding 6 and 4 victory. Luca and Will F’s match was a closer encounter, with virtually every hole being won outright. At one stage, the boys were 3 holes down but fought back well to take a 4 and 3 win.
Team Captain Will T graciously partnered debutant Ollie for what must have been a nervous outing as lead pair, and this match was the tightest of all. Their opponents played far better than their handicaps suggested and they took the match to the last hole, now surrounded by a host of spectators from completed matches. Charterhouse managed to sink a great putt to take that match – but the win did not prevent a stirring overall victory for RBCS. A great start to the year for our golfers!
