Senior Tennis Team – Second Round National Cup Fixture vs. Charter House 20th April

RBC got off to a cracking start, with both Josh A & Oscar F-H both taking their respective singles rubbers, 6-0 6-0 & 6-1, 6-3. Josh A at times……unplayable! This was followed up by Alex P getting through a tough first set 6-4. Second set was more comfortable, wining out 6-2! With a straightforward win for Josh & Oscar in the first seed doubles, the match and a place in the 3rd round secured in style! Unfortunately, Conrad P had to retire hurt, having taken the first set 7-5 and down 5-4 in the second. The second seed doubles saw Tom R and Alex P winning a single set match, 6-3! The 3rd round followed 2 weeks later…

Years 7 & 8 Fixture vs. Edge Barrow 11th May

The Year 7 & 8 RBC Tennis Team got their season underway, with an away fixture against Edge Barrow School. The team acquitted themselves very well…in the brilliant sunshine! We won 3 of the four singles matches, with 2 of them resulting in 6 – 1 win from Rohan C & Harry B-J. Despite losing a hard-fought single, Finn G came back strong in the doubles, and with partner Rohan C, they claimed victory 6 – 1! The other boys’ doubles were wrapped up in quick time by Harry B-J & Milan B, wining without dropping a game! Well done to all the boys that competed, winning the tie 10 – 2 overall! Their next match was at home to Oratory…

Senior Tennis Team – Glanville Nation Cup Semi-Final 17th May

On Wednesday last week, our senior tennis team were taking on KCS Wimbledon in the National Finals qualifier (semi-final). The boys did very very well, coming away 8 – 4 winners! Brothers Tom & Josh ran out convincing winners on both their induvial singles and their combined doubles matches. They had to fight for them but battled well to secure RBC a 6 – 2 lead at that stage in the match. This all meant that we needed to win one more match from the 3rd & 4th singles to take the tie. Conrad P (Year 9) was up against a lower 6th opponent, and after losing the first set and despite coming back strong in the second, he couldn’t quite take his match to a champions tie-break, losing it on the second set tie-break. It was down to our RBC captain, Alex P to beat his opposite number. He started strong and took the first 6-2. The second set was more competitive, and after both players losing their serves at a crucial nervy middle to the set, he came through and took the set 6 – 4, which gave us the tie and the match! Big congratulations again to the team, we now await eagerly for our final opponents, it will either be Whitgift or St Georges.

Year 7 & 8 Fixture vs. The Oratory 25th May

RBC competed well in their second match of the season, against a strong Oratory team! After the first round of singles, the scores were 4 – 4 with our number 2 & 3 pairs winning their contests, and Oratory 1 & 2 pairs securing good wins to level the scores. In the 1 & 2 doubles, Blue Coat were narrowly beating 6 – 4, which gave Oratory the lead in the tie. It then came down to the 2 & 4 pairs doubles, which was a very tight affair! The set was all square at 6 games all, so a tie-break was needed to separate them. Unfortunately, Blue Coat came out on the losing side, narrowly missing our 7 – 5! It was a spirited effort nonetheless, and for only their second game of the season, they did extremely well!
