Mrs Victoria Fangen-Hall
In order to help realise the Headmaster’s vision for Blue Coat, Victoria Fangen-Hall has come on board as the Director of Development. Victoria joins Blue Coat with a wealth of experience, including as Director of Community Relations at Canberra Girls’ Grammar in Australia (2013-15) and, most recently, Director of Development and Alumni Relations for St Peter’s College, Oxford (2015-2017). .
“Plus there was the challenge of setting up a new department”, Victoria continued. “I’d always inherited a department with someone else’s plan, but this was a new role representing a new strategic focus for the School. To be able to take that forward was key – and an exciting challenge”.
Victoria’s plan of action is:
to integrate the whole community more into the life of the School
to create opportunities for alumni to come back and provide mentoring, career advice, and greater social mobility for Blue Coat students
to increase the number of bursaries to ensure that talented students – whatever their backgrounds – have the opportunity to fulfil their potential at Blue Coat.
Because of changes to the legislation around data protection, Victoria is in the process of updating – and expanding – the current alumni database. This will ultimately provide further opportunities for the School to engage with alumni in different ways, and new initiatives will be rolled out over the coming months to help keep our community engaged and in touch with the School and each other.
As part of that plan, Victoria’s role will also involve fundraising.
“We have to keep our fees competitive”, she said, “not just because we’re in a competitive market, but also to meet parents’ expectations. Despite the School’s robust financial position, we need to build up a reserve that will allow us to provide more bursaries and also provide new buildings and facilities to enrich students’ educational development and achievement.”
“The school is proud to still provide fully for 14 Foundationers, with money from the 1646 legacy of the School’ s founder, Richard Aldworth”, she continues, “but it is now our turn to extend his vision.”
Victoria feels the secret to this success will be in collaboration, and she looks forward to meeting as many members of our community as possible over the coming months as she learns about this wonderful place.
