Dr Jo Anna Reed Johnson,

Overview
Jo Anna is the Director of Teaching and Learning at the Institute of Education, University of Reading. She has a strong interest in education for sustainable development and systems thinking, shaped by her background and master’s degree in engineering and a PhD in Education for Sustainable Development.
As the School Director of Climate and Sustainability at the Institute of Education, Jo Anna has played a key role in shaping national approaches to sustainability in teacher training, supported by the Department for Education. The University of Reading’s recent ranking as the top UK university in the People & Planet league table reflects the strength of this work, for which Jo Anna received a national Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence in 2024.
Before moving into higher education, Jo Anna was a Head of Physics in both UK state schools and international schools in Singapore. She became a Chartered Physicist in 2000 in recognition of her contribution to teaching physics.
