Reading Blue Coat make history at Rosslyn Park Sevens

A big couple of days at Rosslyn Park for Blue Coat rugby!
Written by Jack B (Year 13) and Will L (Year 12), Rugby Co-Captains
Rosslyn Park is always one of the highlights of the rugby calendar, and this year’s tournament gave us a
chance to test ourselves against some of the strongest school teams in the country.
This squad has made history as the first Blue Coat team to reach the knockout stages of the competition, which is something we’re really proud of.
As one of the biggest school sevens tournaments in the world, we knew we needed to start well. A 74–0 win against Ratcliffe College gave us a lot of confidence early on and set us up well for the rest of the day. We went on to top our group, which took us into a knockout match against Haileybury. It was a tough game, but we stayed calm and did enough to get through to day two.
Day two was another step up. We opened with a win against Haverfordwest High School and followed i
t up with another strong performance against Glenalmond College. Finishing second in our group meant we progressed to the Bowl quarter-finals.
Alongside reaching the knockout rounds, finishing in the top 16 out of 270 schools on day one shows the level the squad reached across the tournament.
What stood out most across the two days was how the group worked for each other. Everyone played their part, and a number of players pushed through injuries to stay out on the pitch.
Full squad:
William L (Captain), Jack B (Captain), Benjy C, Joseph W, Toby A, Josh K, Charlie A, James L, Sammy M, Ethan C, Harry M, Billy N, Fraser A, Thomas C (standby)
It’s a group we’re proud to have been part of!
