Reading Blue Coat Lights up the Kenton Theatre with Legally Blonde The Musical

A sea of pink, showstopping musical numbers and roaring applause filled the Kenton Theatre in Henley on Thames as Reading Blue Coat’s production of Legally Blonde The Musical dazzled audiences across four spectacular nights from 2 to 5 March 2026. Packed audiences of parents, friends, and staff gathered each evening to enjoy a vibrant, high energy show that celebrated the extraordinary talent, dedication and creativity of Reading Blue Coat students.
With the School’s new Performing Arts Centre currently under construction, this year’s production gave students the exciting opportunity to perform in a professional theatre setting. Taking to the stage at the Kenton Theatre in Henley allowed the cast and crew to tread the boards of a real stage, experience the buzz of a working venue and perform for packed audiences across the four night run.
The theatre was transformed into a world of bright pink energy as the story of Elle Woods unfolded through spectacular musical numbers, comedy and heartfelt moments. Laughter and applause echoed throughout the theatre each night as the audience followed Elle’s journey of self discovery, ambition and confidence.
Year 13 student, Milini K, delivered an outstanding performance in the iconic role of Elle Woods. Taking to the stage in her signature blonde wig, Milini brought charm, humour and powerful vocals to the role, captivating the audience from the opening number. Her confident stage presence and comedic timing carried the show effortlessly, capturing both the spirit and heart of Elle Woods. Her performance led a fantastic cast whose energy and commitment shone throughout the production. A natural brunette in real life, Milini embraced the transformation into Havard’s most stylish law student.
The musical numbers were a true highlight of the show. Performances of songs such as Omigod You Guys, Bend and Snap and So Much Better brought infectious energy to the stage, with the Delta Nu sorority scenes proving especially popular with the audience. The choreography, colourful staging and confident performances created a joyful atmosphere that had the whole audience smiling.
Director of Performing Arts, Mr Devin Möller, who also directed and choreographed the show, reflected on the experience of bringing the musical to life:
“Having seen Legally Blonde numerous times over the years, I have long been excited by the idea of directing it with our students. Its themes of identity, ambition, friendship, resilience and the courage to defy expectations resonate strongly with the young people I am fortunate enough to teach.”
Mr Möller also spoke about the unique experience of performing at the Kenton Theatre:
“For the first time, our annual school musical moved into a professional theatre. The shift has been both thrilling and demanding for our cast and crew. They have risen to the occasion with remarkable maturity while maintaining the joy and energy that make school theatre so special.”
The production was a true team effort, supported by a dedicated Production Team and staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure every detail of the show came together. Lighting, sound, costume, set and backstage crews helped transform the Kenton Theatre stage into the colourful world of Harvard Law and Delta Nu.
Reflecting on the week of performances, Mr Möller added:
“It has been an absolute joy to watch the cast and crew grow in confidence across the week. Their enthusiasm, professionalism and support for one another has been extraordinary. The atmosphere inside the theatre each evening was electric, and I could not be more proud of everything they have achieved together.”
The production has also received national recognition with a nomination for the National School Theatre Awards, a wonderful acknowledgement of the creativity and hard work that went into the show.
Student photographers and members of the Reading Blue Coat Student Media Team were also busy capturing the excitement of the week, documenting rehearsals, backstage moments and performances to help share the experience with the wider school community.
Each evening concluded with rapturous applause as audiences celebrated the cast with cheers and standing ovations. A wonderful buzz filled the theatre as students took their final bows after months of rehearsal and preparation. It was a brilliant celebration of the creativity, talent and confidence of RBC students. With the School’s new Performing Arts Centre taking shape, performances like Legally Blonde The Musical offer an exciting glimpse of the bright future ahead for the performing arts at Reading Blue Coat.
The National School Theatre Awards (affectionately known by students as the Oscars for schools!) also attended the performance and have published a glowing review celebrating the cast’s energy, charisma and the show’s vibrant ensemble performances, describing it as a production that “sparkled with energy, flair and sheer ‘Omigod You Guys’ enthusiasm from start to finish.” You can read the full review here.
