Reading Blue Coat Cadets Rise to the Challenge in Exercise Eagle Landing
Over a 36-hour period at Bramley, 33 CCF Army cadets took part in Exercise Eagle Landing, an intensive training weekend designed to test and build essential military skills. The exercise provided cadets with a range of fieldcraft and tactical experiences that encouraged teamwork, discipline, and resilience.
Throughout the weekend, cadets learned how to establish and operate observation posts, conduct reconnaissance missions, and prepare for battle. They also practised maintaining effective communication in the field, cooked their own meals using 24-hour Army ration packs, and built their own shelters, giving them a valuable understanding of patrolling and evasion techniques.
The exercise concluded on Sunday with a challenging military-style ambush scenario. Cadets defended their harbour area using blank rounds in a simulated enemy engagement, an exercise that demanded both physical endurance and mental determination.
Special thanks to the NCOs, who showed exemplary leadership and ensured clear communication and strong time discipline across all activities. Their guidance was key to the success of the weekend.
With this exercise, cadets have now completed the fieldcraft and tactics component required for their One Star award. Congratulations to all cadets for their perseverance, commitment, and teamwork throughout Exercise Eagle Landing.
