Matt GoodFellow Author Visit
On joining Reading Blue Coat, all our Year 7 students received a copy of The Final Year – an inspiring book by the talented poet Matt Goodfellow. Our fantastic Library team went a step further and organised a visit from Matt himself, where he led a series of engaging poetry workshops for our students. We were also thrilled to share this fantastic opportunity with several local primary schools, who joined us to experience Matt Goodfellow’s lively and thought-provoking sessions.
During the workshops, Matt emphasised the power of using your own voice in writing and highlighted the creative freedom poets enjoy. He explained that poetry allows a limitless range of expression – whether it’s writing in any style, choosing any language, or even deciding whether or not to use punctuation! Inspired by Matt’s message, the children began creating their own poems, exploring phrases and language that resonated with them. Their work was imaginative and original, and we are excited to see the incredible poetry they will no doubt compose in the future.
A special thank you to St Mary’s Preparatory School, Rupert House School, Caversham Preparatory School and @highfieldprepschool, @herriesprepschool for joining us and bringing along your Year 6 pupils to share in this inspiring day of poetry.
