Junior Sculling Head
Our Year 9s raced yesterday at the Junior Sculling Head at Dorney Lake which was the rowing venue for the London 2012 Olympics. For some, it was their first race and the boys were fantastic all afternoon; from rigging the boats, to navigating the warm-up lake, to racing for the first time down a laned course. The race was 1.9km in one direction up the lake before a quick spin and 1.9km back down to get an accumulative time. Our two Blue Coat crews raced as part of the J14 Octuples event and were up against all the best schools from across the UK.
The (B) crew unfortunately had a slight mechanical issue which, although they didn’t let it faze them, certainly slowed them down; they battled brilliantly and should be very proud of their efforts. The (A) crew put together a fantastic race and came in an outstanding 15th place out of 43 crews racing, only 9 seconds off of 10th. A brilliant result! All the boys finished the day in the sunshine, having enjoyed their first race at Dorney Lake.
Well done to the boys – and thanks to the coaches for their help, and the parents who cheered the boys down the course. The rowers will now turn their attention to the summer regatta season where they will race side by side against their opposition.
