In Real Life #BeStrong

This morning’s assembly, at the beginning of Anti-Bullying Week was all about bullying – particularly cyber bullying. Pastoral Deputy Mr Wise – with the help of some Sixth Formers and PE staff – demonstrated the fine line between banter and bullying. He said: “You should frame language in a positive way so you don’t end up having to say ‘I didn’t mean it'”. Mr Wise talked about the U.S. “Click with Compassion” campaign to stop bullying – and cyber bullying in particular – and showed the video below. The distance and impersonal nature of electronic media has created a disconnectedness where emotions are removed, inhibitions are lost and cyber bullying becomes easier. “Behaviour that is unacceptable in real life should also be unacceptable online”, he said. “Remember care, consideration and courtesy towards others – and be as kind to one another on social media as you are in real life”.
