German Play: Our Students Take Centre Stage!
The German department was delighted to host the Onatti Theatre Company on Thursday 6th February, who performed their comedy ‘Auf dem Campingplatz’ (On the Campsite’) to the students in Year 9 and Year 10 who learn German.
Auf dem Campingplatz is a funny play for students who have completed at least one year of German at secondary level. Two friends go on a camping trip. After a train and taxi ride they arrive at the campsite and realise it is not exactly what they were expecting and they are totally unprepared. No mobile reception and no food. Then the discovery of a packet of crisps turns these friends into hostile enemies, and things get out of control.
There was a lot of laughter and enjoyment from the audience, who managed to follow along with the story of the play, which was performed entirely in German. Two lucky Year 9 pupils, Atharv and Milan, had the opportunity to show off their acting skills and take part in the play – good for them!
We would like to thank Onatti and look forward to welcoming the actors again next year.
Mr A Loughe
Jem S: “The play was funny, slapstick and very good. I was surprised by how much I could understand. Overall it was very enjoyable and it was my first time listening to that much German at one time.”
Oli T: “The play was interesting yet educating at the same time. It had a fun storyline to follow along too. Despite not knowing all of the words, we were able to understand what was being said and could follow it at the same time. The actors were very good, speaking at a pace that could be enjoyed by all listeners.”
Kanishka S: “The play was very interesting and I was surprised by the amount of German I was able to understand. Overall, the play was very good and fascinating and was quite easy to recognise the words. “
Atharv A: “The play was quite fun to watch and especially seeing actors speak German live, and because they were also acting while speaking, it was easier to understand what they said. I was also a small part in the play which was really fun as I got to speak German to the actors, which also helped me with my public speaking. I think the play was a good practice for me as this makes my listening skills better. There were few words which I didn’t understand but because of their acting, it made it easier.”
