Geography A Level Trip to Iceland and New York!

An enthusiastic, engaged and curious group of Year 13 Geographers have just returned from an intrepid adventure of learning and enhancement of knowledge relating to their A Level course, through both the extraordinary physical and dynamic human geography of Iceland and New York.

The homeward flight allowed us to share our highlights together, which individually varied so widely from the “natural wonders of Seljalandsfoss and Skògar waterfalls”, “the fascinating geology of the Thingvellir National Park” to the “incredibly powerful experience of going on the journey of a migrant through Ellis Island” and “seeing the vibrant and varied communities throughout the borough of Queens, that seemed to change around every corner.” A special mention goes to Mr. Baker for pointing everyone in the right direction for the best bagel shop in NYC too!

A particularly inspiring moment, as discussed by students and teaching staff alike, was the hike on the Sòlheimajökull Glacier. To immerse ourselves in its beauty and magnitude, whilst realising the consequences of climate change within such a short space of time, was staggering. Despite somewhat inclement weather conditions during the hike, the group remained utterly engaged and in high spirits, continually sharing their appreciation and awe for this incredible opportunity.

The staff team of Mr. Baker, Mr. Ghosh and Mrs. Town very fondly thank and commend the group on how they conducted themselves and communicated this week, while strengthening friendships, creating memories and deepening knowledge throughout. Welcome home!
