Despite many of the weekend’s sporting events being cancelled due to frozen pitches or unfavourable conditions – including the Hammersmith Head, which was cancelled due to poor conditions whilst the crews were on the water and waiting to race – our Year 9 rowing match against Shiplake went ahead as planned.

According to Head of Rowing, Mr Edmondson: “Despite the sunshine, strong winds made conditions unusually rough and wavy, challenging the rowers and leading to one of the three Shiplake boats breaking an oar. The Blue Coat rowers met the challenge head on, taking first, third and fourth place overall.
Special mention goes to Tom, Toby, Isaac, Oliver and Tom, who were the overall winners, beating the nearest competitors by a clear 16 seconds. A great effort for their first experience of racing.”
