CCF Cadets Show Skill, Leadership and Determination in Two Events
It’s been a remarkable few weeks for the Reading Blue Coat Combined Cadet Force (CCF), with cadets showcasing their skills, teamwork, and leadership in two major events.
Operation Eagle Hatchling – Recruit Training Day
A huge well done to the 69 recruits who took part in the recent CCF Recruit Training Day, also known as Operation Eagle Hatchling. Throughout the day, cadets developed essential fieldcraft and tactical skills, including how to remain unseen, move stealthily during both day and night exercises, and communicate silently while on the move.
The lessons were delivered by 12 senior cadets, most of whom are in Year 10 and currently working towards their Cadet Forces Instructional Techniques qualification. This qualification involves lesson planning, delivery, and assessment and each cadet delivered a 30-minute session observed by staff, with every one of them passing with flying colours.
This event highlighted the invaluable leadership and integrity of our senior NCO cadets, whose guidance and professionalism ensured the day’s smooth running. Their example continues to inspire younger recruits and embody the very best of the CCF spirit.
Operation Eagle Hatchling was a resounding success. For those looking for challenge, adventure, and the chance to build leadership skills that last a lifetime, the CCF offers the perfect opportunity to take that first step.
Skill at Arms Meeting – Pirbright Challenge
Meanwhile, James, Jasper, Rupert and Felix proudly represented Reading Blue Coat at the CCF Army Cadet Skill at Arms Meeting, competing at distances of up to 300 metres using military weapons under the expert supervision of Army personnel.
Facing off against 18 other CCF and ACF units, our cadets demonstrated composure, teamwork, and great enthusiasm throughout the competition. Although no trophies were brought home this time, the experience provided a rare opportunity to engage in advanced marksmanship training, connect with peers from across the country, and explore Pirbright Camp, one of the UK’s largest military bases.
The event proved to be an unforgettable experience that reinforced the values of teamwork and perseverance that sit at the heart of the CCF.
Both events were a true reflection of the dedication, skill, and spirit of our cadets and the staff who support them. We look forward to seeing where their next challenge will take them.
