Books
Established British author Claire Fuller came to Blue Coat on Friday 7th December, to talk to Sixth Form pupils about her work and the publishing industry.
Having written three novels, Claire is familiar with the writing process and was lucky enough to be published by Penguin. She spoke about her writing process and finding a literary agent, who then finds a publisher for the work. Claire has taken approximately two years to write each of her books from start to publication.
Claire also spoke about her journey into writing: while she was working in marketing, she became involved in writing fiction through a group who write “Flash Fiction” – very short stories of 100 words. She then developed her skills through a Creative Writing Masters and wrote her first novel from that course – then gave up her marketing job to become a full time writer. Claire spoke about her inspirations including news articles and pictures. She spoke at length about the editing process – her favourite part!
Head Librarian, Miss Knight said: “It was a great event. Claire spoke very eloquently about her writing and the publication process. The girls asked some great questions about the publishing industry and how editing works. I think we may have some budding authors in our midst!”
