At the start of each term the student body get the opportunity to decide on the theme for Spiritual Assemblies for the term. They choose by using a clapometre! The theme that receives the loudest cheer is the winning theme.
The four options (which are discussed with the senior students) presented for this term were;
1. Beyond the Bubble: Looking at things happening outside Reading Blue Coat to help our perspective on life. It’s an opportunity for students and staff to share dramatic and emotive experiences. Jesus changed the world’s perspective – perspective is an important part of our well-being and education.
2. Parity – a massive issue for the 21st Century. Jesus spoke and acted in the name of parity. This is our chance to explore it in our context and a world context. This means gender parity, racial parity and more. The students all knew who the fastest man in the world was but almost none knew who the fastest woman was!!
3. Relative Happiness – a more introspective topic focusing on our own well-being. Encouraging each student that they are enough! A topic to work on our social and emotional well-being. The Bible has a fair bit to say on that too!!
4. Reading Blue Coat Values and Principles – an opportunity to explore our heritage and what our school was founded on, where it has moved since then and what the values and principles of the modern Reading Blue Coat are and can be, moving forward.
The students chose………Parity! (We had confetti canons to celebrate the win!?!)
