๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽถA message from the Director of Music: ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽผ

We hope that the summer has treated you well and you are looking forward to an autumn closer to normal than we have become used to.

I am pleased to inform you that, after consideration, we are delighted to announce that the RBC Community Choir will be allowed to return to singing on site in September. This, I am sure you will agree, is good news. It is strange to think that this will be following their triumphant part in Rossiniโ€™s Petite Messe Sononelle in March 2020, followed by an 18-month silence broken only by a few online performances.

We would like to take this opportunity to invite all who would be interested to come and join us. This is a fun group which takes singers of all levels who are looking for a way to socialise in an enjoyable and occasionally challenging environment. We meet during term time on Tuesdays from 19:30 until 21:00. The group supports concerts such as the Grand Concert in the Autumn, the Carol Service and Swing into Summertime. This year, being a non-Biennial Festival Year, we will also be performing a full-scale choral work. This is scheduled to take place in the spring as part of the Classical Concert on the afternoon of Sunday 20 March.

Some things will, of course, be different. Rehearsals will take place in Tallis, which is larger and easier to ventilate than the Buttery. We also strongly recommend wearing masks when indoors (except when singing in place) and encourage all involved to take a Lateral Flow Test 24 hours before each rehearsal. Sadly the cookies and tea for which the rehearsals have been renowned will have to be put on hold for the time being.

If you would like to become a member of the RBC Community Choir, otherwise known as the โ€œReading Blue Notesโ€, please contact the Director of Music, rmm@rbcs.org.uk.

Yours faithfully,
Richard Meehan
